Batching

A batching system is an economical way to add liquids in a precise amount. There are two basic types: mechanical and electronic.

Precise amounts Designed to add liquid in a controlled, measured quantity.
Two system paths Mechanical preset systems or electronic pulse-based batching.
Meter based control Batching starts with a meter, counter, valve, and application-specific control.

Mechanical batching

Preset counter and valve control

A mechanical system has a meter with a mechanical preset counter, a reset counter and mechanical preset valve. A micro switch can be wired into the system to start and stop a pump.

The amount of liquid needed is indexed into the counter and the valve is opened using a handle.

As the preset counter counts down, the reset counter counts up.

When a predetermined percentage remains, the preset counter mechanically triggers the valve to partially close, slowing the flow.

When all liquid has been delivered, the preset counter mechanically triggers the valve once again, closing the valve completely and shutting off the pump.

Electronic batching

Pulse transmitter and batching counter

An electronic batching system has a meter equipped with a pulse transmitter. The pulse transmitter can have a resolution from one pulse per gallon to over a thousand pulses per gallon. The pulse is transmitted to an electronic batching counter. The batching counter factors the pulses into engineering units such as pounds or gallons.

On the outlet of the meter, a pneumatic or electric preset valve controls the flow. On some applications this valve can also control the flow rate.

The amount of liquid needed is indexed into the counter and the start button is pressed. The control valve opens and the pump starts.

When a predetermined percentage of the batch remains, the valve partially closes, slowing the flow.

When all liquid has been metered, the valve closes completely and the pump stops. Slow flow start and repeat batching can be added depending on the application.
